Soaring to new heights: Summer Flight Camp inspires next generation of aviators!

On May 28th – May 30th, the Airport hosted the 2025 Summer Flight Camp for students ages 8-12. The students learned about the parts of an airplane followed up by a hands-on demonstration from the Civil Air Patrol. Students also flew drones, learned about the forces of flight, and built and launched model rockets. While the scheduled flights for Saturday, May 31st have been postponed, these future aviators will be taking to the skies very soon!

Special thanks to the Sooner Flight Academy, EAA Chapter 1098, and the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics (ODAA) for making this program possible!

Plans are underway to expand the camp for multiple age groups, as well as increasing the amount of camp opportunities. The program is hosted at a reduced cost for parents and we award multiple scholarships to attendees, that might not otherwise get to experience aerospace/aviation. Many camp expenses are typically paid through grants from the ODAA, and reserve donation funds from generous airport tenants.

Parents interested in enrolling their children for the 2026 camp are encouraged to contact the airport administration office for early registration information!

Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport receives $6 million for terminal and apron improvements.

In 2024, the Guthrie-Edmond Regional Airport received $6 million in federal appropriations to fund a new terminal as well as apron expansion improvements. Both cities are excited to move forward with the funding for a terminal facility that will double the size of the existing terminal, which was built in 2001 as part of an aircraft hangar. Current plans for the new terminal include: a new passenger waiting area, 24-hour accessible pilot lounge, FBO and airport management offices, as well as a large conference room that will serve as an aviation classroom and event space. The terminal building also includes commercial kitchen and restaurant space. Final plans for the building are expected to be completed in 2026 and construction is set to be completed in 2027.

Special thanks to U.S. Representative Stephanie Bice (OK-5) for supporting the funding for this project.
